Mandatory Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images The Kansas City Royals signed former All-Star Tony Gonsolin to a major league deal, while putting the right-hander on the 15-day injured list.
Gonsolin, 32, is still in recovery for a pair of major elbow surgeries, with the second last year consisting of the insertion of an internal brace along with flexor tendon repair.
Gonsolin missed the entire 2024 season after initially undergoing Tommy John surgery. He has not pitched in a major league game since June of last year because of the second elbow injury.
In six seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he was 37-13 with a 3.34 ERA in 86 appearances (78 starts). He was 16-1 with a 2.14 ERA in 2022 when he was named a National League All-Star.
Gonsolin made two starts in the 2020 World Series when the Dodgers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays for the franchise's first title since 1988. He is 1-3 with a 9.20 ERA in eight playoff appearances (four starts).
The Dodgers designated Gonsolin for assignment last offseason.
The deal with the Royals includes a club option for 2027. To open a spot on the 40-man roster, right-hander Eli Morgan was designated for assignment.
