Former Wild Player And His Bunny Call For Mike Yeo's Firing
Former NHL enforcer Zenon Konopka played parts of two seasons in Minnesota under coach Mike Yeo, and by all accounts they weren’t pleasant ones for either man. So take that into account when Konopka, with an assist from Hoppy Konopka, goes public with a call for Yeo’s ouster.
Once again, Minnesota is a weirdly constructed team with a good amount of talent, a lot of bad deals clogging up the cap, not a lot of offense, and a complete reliance on Devan Dubnyk standing on his head. And once again, they just can’t ever seem to get their shit together for any length of time. The Wild have lost six in a row, and 11 out of 12, to drop two points back of the second wild card in the West, and Yeo is officially on the hot seat. He wouldn’t be on it for long if Konopka had his druthers.
Following Tuesday’s OT loss to Dallas, Konopka, who last played for the Sabres in 2014, took to Twitter.
A catchier hashtag was offered by his best friend, 10-year-old rabbit Hoppy.
Star Tribune beat writer Michael Russo says the former player and the coach have a history:
All I can tell you is that Konopka and Yeo had a lot of issues behind the scenes and that’s why he ended up on waivers two Januarys ago right before it erupted in the second half.
Hoppy, you’d expect, would be similarly biased.
Yeo was asked about Konopka’s and Hoppy’s comments, and he joked that he was more hurt by the latter:
That’s an all-time great hockey quote.
