Frost down Sceptres in OT, wrap up finals berth

Minnesota forward Taylor Heise scored 16 minutes into overtime, giving the Frost a 4-3 win over the Toronto Sceptres on Wednesday in Saint Paul, Minn., and sending the defending PWHL champions back to the championship series.

The Frost wrapped up the best-of-five semifinal series in four games. Minnesota now awaits the conclusion of the other semifinal series, in which the Ottawa Charge hold a 2-1 lead on the Montreal Victoire.


Heise took a pass at the left point, skated toward the top of the right circle and fired in the winning goal.

Minnesota's Kendall Coyne Schofield scored twice in regulation, including the tying goal at 8:33 of the third period. The Frost also got a goal from Kelly Pannek, and Heise had two points. Sophie Jaques and Michela Cava notched two assists apiece, and Nicole Hensley made 26 saves in the win.

Toronto went up 2-0 behind goals from Julia Gosling and Hannah Miller. After Minnesota tied the game 2-2 in the second period, the Sceptres' Emma Maltais scored 58 seconds into the third. Toronto goalie Carly Jackson stopped 22 shots.
