Garrett Richards Collapses At First Base With Apparent Leg Injury
Angels ace Garrett Richards appeared to injure his left knee while trying to cover first base on a ground ball tonight at Fenway. It's hard to get a great view of what exactly happened because the play never actually made it back to first after Pujols fielding it and throwing to second. Erick Aybar took the ball and pumped back to first, but decided to go to third when the out at first seemed unlikely. Most cameras followed the ball, but there were a couple angles that stayed on Richards, lying on the dirt grasping his leg.
Richards ran to first and at some point his feet got tangled underneath him and he fell down awkwardly. He was in serious pain, screaming out loud, and definitely does grab at his left knee. Angels trainers and staff checked him out during a brief delay and he had to be carted off the field.
