Mandatory Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Gavin Stone was placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday due to right shoulder inflammation.
Stone, who is 11-5 with a 3.53 ERA in 25 starts, was the club's lone starting pitcher to avoid injury this season.
He experienced shoulder soreness during last Saturday's start against the Arizona Diamondbacks, during which he allowed five runs and five hits (including two homers) over five innings.
And now Stone could be shut down. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman didn't rule out the second-year pitcher missing the rest of the season.
"We're gonna do everything we can," Friedman told reporters before Friday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. "How long is he gonna be shut down from throwing, I think like 10-ish days, and we'll just kind of evaluate and see where we're at with strength symptoms, and go from there.
"I mean, again, I think it's either going to work or it's not. And I could sit here and say, 'I'm really optimistic.' We just don't know."
The injury to the 25-year-old Stone comes with All-Star right-hander Tyler Glasnow (elbow), left-hander Clayton Kershaw (left big toe) and right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto (triceps) all currently on the IL, among other Los Angeles starters.
The Dodgers have used 17 different starters this season. Stone's career-high 140 1/3 innings lead the team.
Los Angeles also optioned right-hander Michael Petersen to Triple-A Oklahoma City and recalled right-hander Landon Knack and left-hander Justin Wrobleski.
Petersen, 30, is 3-0 with a 6.43 ERA in 11 relief appearances for the Dodgers this season.
Knack, 27, is up with Los Angeles for the fourth time this year. He is 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 10 games (eight starts).
Wrobleski, 24, is 1-2 with a 6.82 ERA in six starts this season for the Dodgers.
Los Angeles entered Friday leading the National League West by five games over the San Diego Padres and 5 1/2 over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
