Gay Sports Bar Hosts Michael Sam Draft Party
The seventh and final round of the 2014 NFL Draft is underway and Michael Sam has not been drafted yet, but patrons at Gym Sportsbar in West Hollywood are holding out hope.
Apparently ESPN got in touch with the owner sometime yesterday to see if they could do a live spot from the bar, so it's hard to tell whether the Sam party would have happened without ESPN's request. All anyone ever needs to party is an excuse, though, and the first openly gay man selected in the NFL Draft is a pretty damned good reason to get blotto at a gay sports bar.
Shelley Smith did report from the bar, near the tail end of the sixth round as ESPN discussed whether Sam would get drafted. The assembled analysts—Polian, McShay and Kiper—rattled off all the reasons why Michael Sam was a marginal NFL talent sliding down draft boards, except the most obvious.
