Gorkys Hernandez Covers Himself In Shame While Trying To Rob A Homer
The Phillies are wrecking the Giants tonight, but not even a double-digit run differential can inflict as much embarrassment on one player as Carlos Santana’s three-run dong did to San Francisco center fielder Gorkys Hernandez. When Santana blasted one to the deepest part of the ballpark, Hernandez seemed to have a bead on the ball. As he rose above the wall to catch it, though, it slipped in and out of his glove as the fielder fell on his back, covering his face in mortification.
The failed effort was even spectacular enough to fool Giants pitcher D.J. Snelten, who pumped his fist and ran to cover home before his sad epiphany arrived.
That’s basically what would happen if any normal person tried to rob a dinger. But as Mikie Mahtook would tell you, it can always be worse.
