Great Moments In Sportscast Train Wrecks
Earlier, we brought your attention to an America East basketball report from the University of Hartford's student-run TV station, which made up in dead air and frantic hand gestures what it lacked in memorably bad catchphrases. Let's have a look at some of the great televised disasters of our day.
Quite Outstanding: Here's that Hartford sportscast, which a tipster has declared "the next boom goes the dynamite." Maybe that's a stretch, but this one deserves credit for being bad in so many different ways.
Boom Goes The Dynamite: The gold standard. Brian Collins is all growed up now, working for an ABC affiliate in Minnesota — but his catchphrase lives on.
Lorchcast: On Dec. 19, 1995, Matt Lorch, a fill-in sportscaster for KHQA in Quincy, Illinois, gave us nearly six minutes of malfunctioning videos, unplanned catchphrases, and one of the most heartbreaking sighs ever sighed.
Charles Clinton, Guys: In June of last year, we discovered Michigan sideline reporter Charles Clinton, guys.
I'm Sorry?: Not sports, but what the hell. Nothing will ever top the first few moments of this newscast, which is full of so much sweet, snowballing, YouTubeable failure.
