Gregg Popovich Will Start Coaching USA Basketball In 2017
San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will succeed Mick Krizilonski as the USA Basketball men’s coach in 2017, according to an announcement today.
Popovich is slated to coach the squad until 2020. Krzyzewski will coach the team for the 2016 Olympics and move to a special advisory role under Jerry Colangelo after that.
The 66-year-old Popovich has been an assistant coach for three national teams that had an overall record of 29-7. Ideally, his new job will lead to plenty of surly interviews with international media.
