Guy You've Never Heard Of Misses Perfect Game By One Pitch
Yusmeiro Petit, of whom you've never heard, ensured his continued obscurity by missing out on a perfect game when on the final out he allowed a hit to the Diamondbacks' Eric Chavez on a 3-2 count.
Petit, making only his third start in the majors this season, pitched one of the most dominating performances seen in the majors this decade; he struck out seven on 95 pitches, and you will probably forget who he is tomorrow.
If he'd managed to strike out Chavez with two outs in the ninth, he'd have become immortal and joined Matt Cain on the list of Giants hurlers to throw perfectos. He didn't, though, and will return to the obscurity that has marked his unrenowned, mostly minor-league career.
His longest tenure in the majors came in 2009, when he went 3-10 with a 5.82 ERA for those same Diamondbacks.
