Miami, playing the second leg of a back-to-back after an overtime loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday, had no trouble jumping to an early lead. But after building a 19-point advantage in the second quarter, the Heat saw the deficit whittled down to single digits in the second half.
The Wizards were still within striking distance in the fourth quarter, until Miami went on a 12-0 run that effectively put the game away. Pelle Larsson scored half of the Heat's points during the decisive stretch en route and nine of his 16 total points coming off the bench in the fourth quarter.
Washington endured a field-goal drought lasting more than 3:30 overlapping with Miami's onslaught. The Wizards shot 6 of 16 from the floor in the fourth quarter and a dismal 3 of 23 in the second quarter, finishing 31 of 84 (36.9 percent) for the night.
The Heat's defensively overwhelming second quarter saw them hold the Wizards without a field goal for a staggering 7:35 stretch.
Miami shot 39 of 82 (47.6 percent) from the field, with 31 of their made shots coming off assists. Tyler Herro lead the Heat with six assists to complement his 16 points, and Adebayo, Larrson, Terry Rozier and Kyle Anderson each dished five assists.
Every Miami player who saw the floor doled out at least one assist.
Rozier scored 15 points as one of five Miami scorers in double figures. Duncan Robinson added 17 points in reserve duty.
Khris Middleton led Washington with 16 points. Bub Carrington went for 14 points, six assists and five rebounds, and Kyshawn George finished with 10 points, eight assists and five rebounds.
Off the bench, Corey Kispert and Marcus Smart each scored eight points.
