How Davone Bess's Career Collapsed In 12 Months
The Browns announced this morning they have cut ties with receiver Davone Bess. It's not a surprise; Bess missed the final two games of the season for "personal reasons," and in January was arrested for assaulting an officer during a breakdown at a Florida airport. If the man needed help before, he's not about to get it now.
Bess has suffered two frightening incidents over the last 12 months. The first—for which he was hospitalized for substance-abuse treatment without his consent—was kept quiet by the Dolphins, and the Browns may not have been aware of it when they traded for him a month later and signed him to a deal with nearly $6 million guaranteed. Bess checked himself into treatment after the second incident.
Below, our story from January on how Bess went from talented receiver to baggage-laden washout in under a year.
