How Tampa Bay Shenanigans Affected the Trade Deadline
Oh, those pesky Hickeys. Seems as if Tampa Bay pitching coach Jim Hickey was involved in some horseplay — specifically, "wrestling, in a way" — which landed pitcher Grant Balfour on the 4-to-6-week shelf with a left rib strain.
Explained manager Joe Maddon, "Just kind of a freaky thing, something that guys do almost every day in these situations. Nothing ever happens. It happened." [ TampaBay.com]
No one will be disciplined. No rules banning future conduct among players or coaches. No word on who the "player to be named later" involved in the resulting trade for the Diamondbacks' Chad Qualls will be.
And now, onto "wrestling, in a way" bloopers set to the dynamic tunes of Creed.
