Hue Jackson Is Giving Johnny Manziel The Cold Shoulder
At the time of his hiring, it was reported that new Browns head coach Hue Jackson wanted nothing to do with Johnny Manziel. Since then, Jackson hasn’t done anything to indicate that he wants Manziel on the team next year.
On Wednesday, Jackson met with reporters and admitted that he hadn’t even talked to Manziel yet, despite having reached out to a number of other players on the team. From Cleveland.com:
“I’ve talked to some and I’m going to talk to all as we go through this process,’’ [Jackson] said. “I’ve got to kind of mix all of that in with hiring a staff and doing the other responsibilities that I have. I’m going to get around to everybody. [Manziel] just wasn’t in the first batch of guys—but he’s definitely on our list.’’
Those comments came a day after Jackson met with North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz, a top QB prospect in this year’s draft, at the Senior Bowl. Neither Wentz nor Jackson had anything of substance to say about their meeting, but it’s pretty clear that the Browns, who have the No. 2 pick in the draft, are looking for a new quarterback.
Meanwhile, Manziel spent last weekend partying in Dallas, according to this video from Bob’s Blitz:
Jackson will have to talk to Manziel at some point, but there’s a decent chance that conversation will be short and will end with Johnny Football in need of a new team.
