Hungary Forced Overtime In Women's Water Polo With A Buzzer-Beating Sneak Attack

It was all over, and then it wasn't. In the women's water polo bronze medal game, Australia looked like it had everything sewn up when goalkeeper Alicia McCormack stopped Rita Keszthelyi's long-range shot with about 10 seconds to go. The celebration began, since all the Aussies had to do was run out the clock, dry off, and collect their medals. But wait!
Hungary's Dora Antal had one, last-ditch effort in her. Swimming underwater, Antal snuck up on McCormack, stole the ball, and in the same motion tossed it backhanded into the goal, her release coming just before the horn sounded. It was off to overtime, but the Australians managed to hold on in the end, scoring twice to earn the bronze they prematurely thought they had. [NBC]
