Mandatory Credit: James Guillory-Imagn Images Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis received a $5,000 fine Wednesday for high-sticking Columbus Blue Jackets forward Conor Garland on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred at the 2:02 mark of the third period with the Hurricanes trailing by three goals in an eventual 5-1 loss in Columbus, Ohio.
It was the second time in the game that a high stick from Jarvis earned a double minor and drew blood from the face of a Blue Jackets player. He also struck Columbus defenseman Zach Werenski early in the first period, leading to a power-play goal by Mason Marchment for a 1-0 lead.
The fine announced by the NHL Player Safety department is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.
Jarvis, 24, has recorded 53 points (28 goals, 25 assists) in 59 games this season. Before spending eight minutes in the box on Tuesday, he had only received 13 penalty minutes all season.
