Positive thinking is a powerful thing. Or at least regression to the mean is.

After going 0-for-13 through the Cardinals’ first three games, Dexter Fowler tried to bust his slump with a mantra:

And what do you know? After making out in his first at-bat, Fowler finally broke into the win column with an RBI single in the third inning of St. Louis’s 8-4 win over Milwaukee.

“Sometimes, you have to put it out in the universe,” Fowler said.

You know athletes. They’re superstitious sorts, and if they see something work for another guy, you’re damn right there’s going to try it for themselves.
