Ian Schieffelin, No. 13 Clemson too strong for Virginia

Ian Schieffelin collected 21 points and 13 rebounds to propel No. 13 Clemson to a 71-58 come-from-behind victory over Virginia on Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.

Viktor Lakhin produced 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists as the Tigers (24-5, 16-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) came from 10 points down in the second half to win their sixth straight game.

In capturing its program-record seventh consecutive road win, Clemson defeated Virginia for just the second time in the last 17 meetings.

Jaeden Zackery contributed 12 points and hit the lone 3-pointer for Clemson, which made 47.3 percent of its shots overall -- including 1 of 10 from beyond the arc.

The play inside of Schieffelin and Lakhin paved the way for the Tigers to own a 48-24 edge in points in the paint.

With the win, the Tigers added to their team-record number of victories in their 72 seasons in the ACC.

Isaac McKneely scored 16 points and Andrew Rohde added 12 to go along with five assists for Virginia (14-15, 7-11).

Dai Dai Ames provided 12 points as the Cavaliers made 42.3 percent of their shots overall and 8 of 19 (42.1 percent) from distance.

Clemson swung the outcome with a 20-2 run early in the second half. It came after the Tigers had missed 13 straight shots and fallen behind 37-27.

On his 22nd birthday, Schieffelin scored nine of the points in the spree. Zackery added eight, making the basket that ended the drought and triggered the run, which put the Tigers up 47-39.

Reserve Del Jones also provided a spark during the sprint, making a driving layup and following with a steal-and-score.

Clemson assured the victory with a late 13-2 dash. Lakhin started the run with a three-point play and finished with a layup that gave the Tigers a 64-50 lead with 1:53 left.

In the first half, Clemson had two stretches of more than five minutes without a field goal and was fortunate to trail by just 32-27 at the break.

The first drought came early, paving the way for a 13-1 Virginia spree. McKneely fueled the run with a trio of 3-pointers as the Cavaliers took a 15-7 lead.
