Mandatory Credit: Perry Nelson-Imagn Images Ilya Sorokin made 35 saves for his league-leading fifth shutout of the season as the New York Islanders defeated the host Edmonton Oilers 1-0 on Thursday night.
Anthony Duclair scored the lone goal for the Islanders, who are 2-1-1 on their seven-game road trip.
Duclair ended the long scoring stalemate at 13:42 of the third period. New York was on its first power play of the game after Leon Draisaitl went to the penalty box for tripping Matthew Schaeffer, and Calum Ritchie set Duclair up for a snap shot past Connor Ingram.
Ingram made 17 saves for the Oilers, who have dropped three of their past four games (1-1-2).
Connor McDavid had his 20-game points streak end in the shutout loss, the longest such streak in the NHL since the Toronto Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner had a 23-game run in the 2022-23 season.
The teams each had 12 shots on goal during scoreless first period as both goalies traded off making big saves.
The Oilers got the first power play of the game with 1:18 remaining in the second period when Adam Pelech was called for slashing Jack Roslovic, but they couldn't convert.
Edmonton outshot New York 13-4 in the second 20 minutes.
Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard appeared to score 32 seconds into the third period before the power play expired. However, the goal was waved off as video replay revealed the puck went bar to bar and never crossed the goal line.
Had the tally stood, Leon Draisaitl would have collected his 600th career assist.
Edmonton got another power-play opportunity early in the third period as Emil Heineman went to the box for tripping Darnell Nurse, but the Oilers were again held without a goal.
