Impartial Observer Donovan McNabb Worries That Mike Shanahan Will Ruin Robert Griffin III
RG3? Decent QB. Everyone thinks he'll be great. The Redskins got some people for him to throw to, too.
But here comes Donovan Downer, just pooping on the Griffin parade. McNabb was on , and he had some not-so-promising things to say about Griffin's prospects in Washington. Specifically, that the Redskins will not be tailoring their offense to Griffin's unique talents anytime soon.
"A lot of the time ego gets too involved with when you're playing in Washington. Here's a guy who's coming out who's very talented, mobile, strong arm, we've already heard he's a very intelligent football mind. Are you going to cater the offense around his talent and what he's able to do or are you going to bring the Houston offense with Matt Schaub over to him and have him be embedded in that whole thing."
You might think that the "talented, mobile, intelligent" quarterback could be referring to McNabb himself as much as Griffin, but no. McNabb was none of those things by the time he came to DC.
Go on with your unbiased analysis of Mike Shananhan's record with quarterbacks, D-Mac:
"I have a couple of names for you that Mike Shanahan, quarterbacks he coached, and the lack of success that he's had. We had John Beck, who was 0-4. Rex Grossman, who was 6-11. Jay Cutler, who was his prized possession, 17-20. Jake Plummer, a guy who had success, led them to the AFC championship against Pittsburgh, as we know, and then benched him the next year because he wouldn't do what you wanted him to do, pretty much. Brian Griese, who was supposed to be the heir apparent to John Elway and hasn't had a lot of success."
Again, one name conspicuously missing. Perhaps ESPN's graphics department can shed some light on the full and unredacted list of Shanahan quarterback projects:
Hmm, still someone missing. Maybe some guy who felt his treatment in Washington was "disrespectful and disgraceful," who accused the Redskins front office of leaking damaging conversations to the media, and who still simmers over being benched by Mike Shanahan late in a close game.
That guy insists he "[doesn't] have personal issues here," here being a 10-minute nationally televised evisceration of the Shanahans. So rest assured that your football analysis is coming from a place of pure professionalism, and not just from a player who hates Mike Shanahan's guts. Doesn't look good for Griffin's prospects.
