Independent Leaguer Sprints Behind Play To Start Brawl, Gets Taken Down
Summer may already be half over, but finally—finally—we have a good basebrawl.
The above clip comes courtesy of last week’s independent Can-Am League game between the New Jersey Jackals and the Rockland Boulders. In the 10th inning of a tied game, Jackals closer Fernando Cruz sprinted behind the live play to go after somebody in the Boulders’ dugout, but got his ass taken to the ground before he could get there. Stick around to the three minute mark, when Cruz tells some Rockland players to meet him in the parking lot after the game.
The seeds of Cruz’s mania were planted an inning earlier, when he entered an 8-3 game with the bases loaded. He hit Marcus Nidiffer with a pitch to walk in a run, and the two jawed back-and-forth a bit as Nidiffer walked to first, emptying the benches. You can see that at 4:53:15 in this video.
Cruz was suspended for five games.
