Irvin's Good Friends At ESPN
This image was lost some time after publication, but you can still view it [object Object] . Last post of the week on Michael Irvin, we promise.
We have to say something: If it ever turns out that we are mistakenly arrested for having drug paraphernalia in our automobile, and the official story is accepted that it was a mistake and that we're innocent, we hope the rest of Gawker Media supports us better than ESPN has supported Michael Irvin. (We, obviously, have our doubts.)
We've wrapped up already what Jason Whitlock has to say about the incident. And then on the site today, Irvin takes a couple more hits. First, Bill Simmons makes a joke about Ricky Williams hanging out at Irvin's house. And then, in typically too sober fashion, the Worldwide Leader's ombudsman tackles the "incident" as well, calling it, judiciously, "embarrassingly awkward," as if it were in the break room after an office party where a couple of middle managers started making out.
Irvin will be off this weekend. It remains to be seen if this a real one-week suspension, or if it's one of those Terrell Owens-suspensions. Judging from the internal biting already, we have a guess. Oh, did we mention that Irvin's contract runs out at the end of the NFL season? Did we have to?
