J.J. Watt And Andy Dalton Engage In Just The Lamest Beef
Houston beat Cincinnati 10-6 Monday night, in a game that was about as entertaining as that score indicates. Backup Texans quarterback T.J. Yates threw the only touchdown of the game, entering in the third quarter after Brian Hoyer suffered a concussion. With the loss the Bengals fall to 8-1, while the 4-5 Texans are somehow tied for the division lead in the whack AFC South.
Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton—who entered with an 18/3 touchdown/interception ratio and ranked in the top five of both quarterback rating and QBR—rode the struggle bus all game. He had zero TDs and one interception, and only threw for 197 yards while rarely leading the Bengals on drives lasting longer than a handful of plays.
Afterwards J.J Watt, who got a sack and two quarterback hits, had this line cued up about Dalton, playing off his “Red Rifle” nickname:
Dalton was naturally asked for a response, and had this to say:
I’m disappointed in him because of the integrity of the game. I have a lot of respect for him. He’s a really good player. There are a lot of kids and a lot of people who look up to him, and for him to make comments like that, he’s just showing that’s acceptable to say that kind of stuff. It’s disappointing for one of the best players in this league to come out and say something like that. So, that’s all I’m going to say about that. I think J.J is a good player, but for him to be one of the best in the league and to show that integrity, it shows what he’s about, and that’s disappointing.
Woof, I can’t tell whose comment I hate more. Watt’s burn is just the type of thing an eight-year-old would giggle uproariously about, but an 11-year-old would be too sophisticated for. And Andy Dalton, really? What disappoints you is the “integrity of the game” of FOOTBALL? You’re worried that the kids who look up to J.J. Watt—who are clearly already fucked—will somehow be harmed by hearing a lame zinger?
Give me a freaking break.
