Hobbled Trevor Lawrence loses top target
source: Getty Images Jacksonville has another injury to worry about in addition to quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who suffered a high ankle sprain during the Jaguars’ 34-31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football.
Wide receiver Christian Kirk was also hurt during the game, departing after catching a 26-yard pass and falling to the ground grabbing his leg. It was a non-contact injury and he did not return to the game.
While Lawrence still remains questionable for this coming weekend, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Kirk suffered a core muscle injury, not a leg injury on Monday and will likely need surgery. The rehab time is roughly eight weeks. If the Jags make it to the Super Bowl, he could potentially play.
Kirk is a top target for Lawrence. He has a team-leading 787 total yards this season on 57 receptions and has three touchdowns. With him out and Lawrence, Tyson Campbell, and Tre Herndon questionable, the Jaguars game against Cleveland this weekend could move the team around in the standings in a division where everyone’s competing for the top spot.
Jacksonville is 8-4 and atop the AFC South. Lawrence has thrown for 3,004 yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
