Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Is Back On: Rescheduled For November 15
The professional boxing match between legendary fighter Mike Tyson and influencer Jake Paul has a new date.
The scheduled July 20 clash on Netflix was postponed after Tyson’s medical issues on an airplane in May. But now, according to ESPN, the fight is officially rescheduled for Friday November 15 in Dallas.
"Our team has worked diligently with all parties involved to reschedule this monumental fight to a date that ensures both Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are fully prepared, with equal training time, as well as allowing us to keep the event at AT&T stadium in the midst of the Cowboys season," said Nakisa Bidarian, Co-Founder of Most Valuable Promotions in a statement. "We appreciate the outstanding dedication, collaboration, and flexibility of our partners at Netflix and AT&T Stadium. Paul vs. Tyson is the most cross-generational sporting event in history, and we are committed to providing fans worldwide with this unforgettable night of boxing, live globally on Netflix. We look forward to seeing everyone on Friday, November 15 for a showdown that will be talked about for generations to come."
The fight will now take place on a Friday night instead of Saturday, which is the typical day of the week for big-time prized fights like this one.
However, the Dallas Cowboys have a Monday Night Football game against the Houston Texans at AT&T Stadium. The fight taking place on Friday will give crews enough time to convert Jerry’s World from a professional boxing match on Netflix into the host of a nationally televised NFL game on ESPN.
The original date of July 20 made a ton of sense because there was little competition. The NBA Finals would be over. College football would still be about one month away. Baseball would just be getting back into form after the All Star break. However, Tyson’s ulcer flare up forced him to postpone the fight after doctors recommended that he toned down training.
Tyson will be 58 years old when this fight takes place. Paul is much younger than him at 27, and will need to gain weight back for this heavyweight, sanctioned bout without headgear. It’s been 19 years since Tyson’s last professional fight. It’s been since March since Paul knocked out Ryan Bourland in the first round.
Many people thought, and probably hoped, that Tyson’s medical scare would prevent this fight from ever being rescheduled, as it’s likely putting both men at risk.
But the show must go on. And it’ll go on during the heart of football season live from Dallas on Netflix.
