Mandatory Credit: Stephen Brashear-Imagn Images Jared McCann's 400th career point -- a goal off a rebound with 3.8 seconds left in overtime -- lifted the Seattle Kraken over the visiting Vegas Golden Knights 2-1 Saturday night.
Matty Beniers had a goal and an assist for the Kraken, who opened 2-0-0 for the first time in franchise history. Goaltender Joey Daccord made 26 saves.
Pavel Dorofeyev scored his league-leading fifth goal of the season for Vegas and Adin Hill stopped 20 of 22 shots.
Beniers' shot in overtime from the high slot was stopped by Hill but McCann lurked in front of the net and banged in the rebound for the winner.
The Kraken nearly won it late in regulation as Vince Dunn's shot from the blue line deflected off Beniers then off the left post with 30 seconds remaining.
The Golden Knights finally solved Daccord with a man advantage at 4:11 of the third period.
Before the goal, Jack Eichel's shot from between the top of the faceoff circles rang off the left post. Vegas kept the puck in the offensive zone and cycled it to Eichel along the right-wing boards and he found Mark Stone behind the net. Stone dished to Dorofeyev for a one-timer from the left faceoff dot that sailed just over Daccord's glove and into the right upper corner of the net.
The Kraken opened the scoring on the power play at 7:58 of the second period. Dunn sent the puck behind the Vegas net for Jordan Eberle, who sent a backhanded, no-look pass between his own legs to a wide-open Beniers just outside the top of the crease. Beniers faked a forehand shot, drew the puck to his backhand and slid the puck under Hill before the goalie could fully recover.
Seattle defenseman Brandon Montour put a heavy hit on Zach Whitecloud, who was reaching for a puck above his head, in front of the benches just past the midpoint of the second period. Vegas' Ben Hutton took exception with check and dropped the gloves with Montour.
The Kraken outshot Vegas 9-7 in a scoreless first period.
