Javier Fortuna Falls Out Of Ring, Is Removed On Stretcher By Paramedics; Opponent Says "He Was Looking For An Excuse"
Dominican super lightweight Javier Fortuna left his bout in Texas tonight against Adrian Granados on a stretcher after tumbling out of the ring and appearing to hit his neck or head on something ringside. Curiously, (skeptical?) Showtime commentators immediately started speculating about rematch possibilities while Granados claimed his fallen opponent was just “looking for an excuse.”
The timing—ten seconds before the bout would have become official under Texas rules—suggests a reason to be skeptical, as does the fact that this is boxing—an event which only a true mark could really take at face value. But still, maybe we should wait to see if the guy in a neck brace can.. walk?
