Springer, 36, was not in the starting lineup for Wednesday afternoon's series finale against the visiting Boston Red Sox.
Springer has been sidelined with a broken left big toe since April 11. The four-time All-Star hit .185 with two homers and six RBIs in 14 games before the injury.
Jimenez, 29, is batting .290 with three RBIs in 12 games in his first season with the Blue Jays, who signed him in free agency in January.
