Jets D Haydn Fleury stretchered off after brutal crash into boards

Mandatory Credit: Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images Winnipeg Jets defenseman Haydn Fleury was wheeled off the ice on a stretcher in the first period of Tuesday night's game with the Vegas Golden Knights after taking a hard fall into the end boards.
Fleury had a collision with Vegas forward Keegan Kolesar before the goal line and slid back-first hard into the boards. He rolled over on his side on the ice and there was a pool of blood where his face was positioned.
The 29-year-old defenseman was surrounded by teammates as he was treated by EMS and was eventually taken off on a stretcher. Kolesar, a native of nearby Brandon, Manitoba, gave Fleury a pat as he went by the bench. No penalty was called on the play.
When play resumed, Jets captain Adam Lowry and Kolesar immediately dropped the gloves and picked up five-minute fighting majors.
In his second season with Winnipeg, Fleury has no points or assists through 17 games. He missed about five weeks in November and December while in concussion protocol.
