Jets Release Tim Tebow
Our long National Football League nightmare is over. The Jets have done the inevitable and released Tim Tebow into the wild. When you love something, you have to let it go.
Tebow was reportedly told of the move this morning, when he reported to the Jets' facility for workouts. The move was just a matter of time. Despite an offseason of New York insisting it hadn't made any decision on Tebow's future, that was obviously just lip service while the Jets tried to get something, anything of value for Tebow. (They gave up a fourth and a sixth for him last year.) No one bit. And now he's gone for nothing, made even more redundant after the Jets drafted Geno Smith as their quarterback of the near future.
The timing's terrible for Tebow and his hopes of finding a job. After the draft and the signing of the top undrafted free agents, every team's roster is swollen—they need to make cuts, not add special teams players. It's still hard to fathom that the Jags wouldn't take a flyer on the local boy, but there's always Canada.
The team's official statement, from Rex Ryan:
"We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow. Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward.”
