Jim Harbaugh is conducting part of Michigan’s spring practice over spring break, and he’s doing it at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey has asked the NCAA to ban exactly that, and it’s hard to believe his motives are particularly altruistic.
Sankey said all the PR-friendly things: the conference doesn’t want players to lose their spring breaks to football, he doesn’t want them hanging around a “business enterprise” associated with agents. But let’s be real: he doesn’t care for a Big Ten power gaining potential recruiting exposure in the heart of SEC country. It’s the same reason the SEC and ACC co-sponsored legislation to ban “satellite camps.”
Jim Harbaugh has a message to someone out there, he’s not saying who:
There are real arguments to be had here, but it’s more fun to just do this instead.
