Mandatory Credit: Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports Jose Soriano pitched eight-plus solid innings and Zach Neto and Jo Adell each homered as the Los Angeles Angels rolled to an 8-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night in Phoenix.
Soriano (4-5) induced the Diamondbacks to hit into four double plays and recorded 16 outs on grounders in the longest outing of his major league career. His shutout attempt was broken up in the eighth inning by Christian Walker's solo homer.
Soriano gave up two runs and five hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 97 pitches. He exited after Geraldo Perdomo's infield hit to start the ninth -- a liner right at Soriano that he got his glove on.
Matt Moore allowed a two-run homer to Ketel Marte -- his 14th of the season -- before finishing the ninth for Los Angeles.
Adell hit a three-run blast, Neto had three hits and two RBIs and Nolan Schanuel also had three hits for the Angels, who won for the fifth time in their past eight games.
Walker had two hits for the Diamondbacks, including his 13th homer, a 451-foot homer to center to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Arizona didn't have an at-bat with runners in scoring position after going 7-for-19 in Tuesday's series-opening 9-4 victory.
The loss was just the fourth in the past 11 games for the Diamondbacks.
Arizona's Slade Cecconi (1-5) was torched for seven runs and 10 hits in three-plus innings. He struck out four and walked none.
Kevin Pillar's RBI double in the first inning got the Angels going.
Neto hit the first pitch of the second inning over the wall in left for his eighth homer of the season. The Angels' lead grew to 3-0 in the third on Willie Calhoun's two-out RBI single.
Neto and Mickey Moniak singled to start the fourth to put runners on the corners. Adell then crushed a slider from Cecconi and the three-run shot sailed 434 feet deep into the seats in left-center to make it 6-0. The blast was Adell's 12th of the season.
Luis Guillorme followed with a double to end Cecconi's night. One out later, Luis Rengifo delivered an RBI single off Scott McGough for the final run charged to Cecconi.
Neto nearly hit a two-run homer in the sixth but a replay review showed his blast hit just below the yellow line. Neto was awarded a double that drove in Matt Thaiss.
