Just Rename It The 'Roger Federer Tour' And Get It Over With
It's looking like there will be exactly one interesting men's professional tennis match played this year, and that will be Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal in the finals of the French Open. Federer is probably going to win every other match he plays, and any match that doesn't involve Federer amounts to just two guys jerking off.
Federer went through the Australian Open without dropping a single set, the first time that's happened since 1980. His win streak is at 36 matches, at 25-year-old, he's within four Grand Slam titles of the record held by Pete Sampras, and he's won six of the last seven majors, with the only loss coming to Nadal in last year's French Open.
Fernando Gonzalez of Chile wasn't a pushover for Federer last night. 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-4 was the tally. Nothing to be ashamed of there. That might be as close as anyone comes on a non-clay surface.
