Kelly Olynyk's Eye Is Pretty Messed Up
Celtics center Kelly Olynyk took an elbow to the face from teammate Shavlik Randolph during the team’s shootaround earlier today, and suffered a laceration above his eye.
“Kelly was playing his typical 1-on-1 pregame with Shavlik and got elbowed in the eye,” head coach Brad Stevens said. “And his eye blew up, so he went to the ophthalmologist to get sutured up and hopefully get some swelling down. It just swelled up right away. I’d say he’s very unlikely (Wednesday night), but I have not heard final word from (trainer Ed Lacerte) or the doctor.”
Despite Stevens saying Olynyk was very unlikely to play against the Pacers tonight, he is currently going through his normal pregame warmup routine. Maybe having a bump the size of a bowling ball above his eye isn’t as detrimental to playing basketball as you’d think.
Update: Olynyk played 22 minutes and scored 19 points in Boston’s 100-87 win.
