Kentucky Football Player Charged with Stalking, Poor Use of Movie Quotes
Junior strong safety Ashton Cobb was not in the line up on Saturday for Kentucky's game against rival Western Kentucky. It wasn't your typical football injury that kept Cobb off the field but rather an arrest and subsequent suspension from the university. Cobb has been charged with "second-degree stalking, third-degree terroristic threatening, and harassing communications" that included eerie lines from The Joker in The Dark Knight. From the Lexington Herald-Leader:
Cobb's ex-girlfriend said he called her about 19 times and sent about 15 text messages on Thursday, court records say. In one voicemail message he used profane language, saying he would kill and rape her. He then sent a text message that read, "Why so serious?" referencing the Joker from the newest Batman movie, court records say.
While persistence is often a valued characteristic — heck, A.J. called me 12 times yesterday — threats of murder and rape are obviously criminal offenses. Cobb is originally from Aliquippa, Pa, which I'll have you know is nowhere near Philadelphia. Photo from WKYT:
