Kevin Martin Isn't Actually Clueless, Knew Kevin Love Was Traded
For a minute there, it sure seemed like the Timberwolves's Kevin Martin was the most oblivious basketball player in the NBA. At Timberwolves media day yesterday, Martin told the assembled media that he had just learned that Kevin Love was traded to the Cavaliers. Via the Star Tribune:
"I didn't know Kevin Love got traded until yesterday," Martin said with a straight face at Monday's annual media day at Target Center that preceded a midnight start to training camp in Mankato. "I'm not big on looking at blogs and all that."
The story seemed too good to be true. Rumors of a Kevin Love trade dominated summer, with a trade reportedly agreed upon in early-August but not consummated until August 23rd because of league rules. Did Martin think number one pick and Canadian phenom Andrew Wiggins just magically appeared in Minneapolis?
Alas, USA Today reporter Sam Amick killed the notion that Martin spent his summer locked in solitary confinement when he texted him tonight to ask about the story:
Just had to break the ice of media day with a good laugh! No way anybody in my press conference believed I was serious.
