Mandatory Credit: Terrence Lee-Imagn Images Adrian Kempe scored at 1:14 of overtime to lift the visiting Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 win against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night in the opener of a five-game road trip.
Kempe brought the puck down the left side and scored with a wrist shot from the left circle for the seventh regular-season overtime goal of his career.
Kempe also assisted on Alex Turcotte's goal, and Darcy Kuemper made 18 saves for the Kings, who have won five in a row.
Mark Scheifele scored and Eric Comrie made 21 saves for the Jets, who have dropped four of five (1-2-2).
Comrie has lost his past seven starts (0-6-1) while serving as the backup to Connor Hellebuyck, who leads the NHL in wins (25) and goals-against average (2.08).
Kings defenseman Jordan Spence briefly thought he scored the game's first goal at 15:59 of the first period, but the Jets challenged for offsides, and the goal was overturned upon review.
After the Kings outshot Winnipeg 6-4 in the scoreless first period and Comrie stopped Brandt Clarke on a breakaway early in the second, Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead at 4:39 of the second.
Kings defenseman Jacob Moverare received a pass at the right point and fed Kempe in the high slot. He spun and shot as he skated away from the net, and the puck was deflected by Turcotte at the left hash marks and over the left pad of Comrie for his fifth goal of the season.
Los Angeles outshot the Jets 9-5 in the middle frame.
The Jets did not capitalize on their first power play of the game, which began at 6:46 of the third period, but they did on their second after Alex Laferriere was whistled for hooking Nikolaj Ehlers at 9:58.
Gabriel Vilardi fed Scheifele in the left circle, and he scored his team-leading 24th goal of the season with a one-timer to tie the game 1-1 at 10:22 and deny Kuemper his third shutout of the season.
