All five Kings starters scored in double figures, including Sabonis, who had 17 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists for his NBA-leading 23rd triple-double.
De'Aaron Fox finished with 21 points, Keegan Murray scored 19 and Keon Ellis added 14 for the Kings, who moved three games ahead of the Lakers in the Western Conference playoff race and also completed a 4-0 season-series sweep.
After having been held to nine points through three quarters, James scored nine fourth-quarter points, including five in a row to trigger an eight-point burst that turned a 17-point deficit into a 93-84 game with still 9:18 to play.
But Barnes answered with a 3-pointer, then connected on two more during a 29-second stretch less than three minutes later that put the Kings in command for good at 107-91 with 6:07 to go.
James finished with 18 points and led the Lakers with 13 rebounds, but missed a 111th career triple-double by one assist.
Murray added 11 rebounds and Fox chipped in seven assists for Sacramento, which beat the Lakers for the second time in a week. The Kings have won four of five games over that stretch.
Five of Murray's seven made baskets were 3-pointers, helping the Kings outscore the visitors 57-42 from beyond the arc.
Austin Reaves paced the Lakers with 28 points, hitting seven of his team's 14 3-pointers. Anthony Davis added 22 points and 10 rebounds and Rui Hachimura chipped in with 20 points for the Lakers.
