LeBron James and Anthony Davis Share Cryptic Instagram Posts, Sparking Reunion Rumors
LeBron James and Anthony Davis shared the same cryptic Instagram story on Tuesday afternoon, leading NBA sleuths to wonder if a reunion is on the horizon.
“Becoming the best version of yourself comes with a lot of goodbyes,” the post read.
The posts were shared 22 minutes apart.
Sure, maybe James and Davis — who played six seasons together and won an NBA title in 2020 — just felt sentimental at the exact same time on a Tuesday afternoon. But what fun is that?
James appears to be the odd man out with the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite being arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, the Lakers are committed to building around Luka Doncic, the future of their franchise. That commitment was cemented when Los Angeles extended Doncic on a three-year deal worth $165 million.
James has been the centerpiece of an offseason full of drama. He picked up his $52 million player option with the Lakers, but that same day his agent issued a statement saying that winning championships remained James’ top priority and that they appreciated the partnership with the Lakers over the last several years.
The Lakers never released a formal statement announcing James had picked up his option.
James also declined to join the broadcast during an NBA Summer League game, but his agent claimed that four teams had reached out privately about his availability via trade.
It seems almost certain this will be James’ last year in Los Angeles — if it even gets that far. He could request a buyout, putting the organization in a difficult position.
And what about Davis?
Ironically, he was part of the blockbuster trade that sent Doncic to Hollywood and sent shockwaves through the league.
Davis appeared in just nine games with the Mavericks last season, but the consensus is that a trio of Davis, No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving could be a force in 2025 and beyond. Especially since Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison called the Doncic trade a “win-now” move.
Perhaps Davis and James are eyeing a reunion in a mystery city in 2026. Or maybe they are just two friends trolling the internet on a slow news day. Regardless, their friendship and on-court chemistry are undeniable.
