Lionel Messi Goal Delivers Barcelona The La Liga Title

Barcelona’s win over Atlético Madrid returned Barça to the La Liga champion’s throne today, and it’s a shock to no one that Lionel Messi is the player who delivered them there.

His 42nd goal of the La Liga season proved to be the deciding factor in his team’s reclaiming of the trophy, as Barcelona needed only to win one of its two remaining matches to secure the title. Real Madrid did all it could in winning big against Espanyol, but no number of Cristiano Ronaldo goals could erase the single Messi shot that found the net.
