Mandatory Credit: Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images Luciano Acosta and Leo Chu scored in a two-minute span of the first half to help propel host FC Dallas to a 2-1 win over hapless Sporting Kansas City on Saturday in a Western Conference match in Frisco, Texas.
Dallas (3-2-1, 10 points) won for the first time at home this season after earning its initial seven points of the campaign in three away matches.
Sporting Kansas City (0-5-1, 1 point) has stumbled mightily through its first six matches. It has now gone 10 contests without a victory dating to last season and to a Sept. 18 game against Colorado.
Daniel Salloi put Sporting KC on top in the 32nd minute on the first shot on target by either side. He waited outside the six-yard box as Shapi Suleymanov worked his way across the penalty area before passing to Salloi on the far side.
The Kansas City striker was patient with his chance, steadying the ball with his left foot and then ripping a right-footed shot to the right of Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes and into the net for a 1-0 lead.
Dallas wasted little time responding, tying the match five minutes later when Acosta found the net after a nifty give and go play with teammate Petar Musa. Acosta carried the ball into the box before passing to Musa, who was then engulfed by the Kansas City defense.
But Musa somehow got the ball back to Acosta, who beat Sporting keeper John Pulskamp under his left hand.
The Toros stayed on the attack and quickly pushed to the lead. This time it was Leo Chu in the 39th minute as he took a pass from Sebastian Lletget and placed the ball into the upper center of the goal beyond the reach of Pulskamp to make it 2-1. Osaze Urhoghide was also credited for an assist that started the scoring play.
Kansas City made a push for the equalizer as Jansen Miller's shot in the 64th minute forced a save from Paes. Another attempt, this one by Khiry Shelton in the 70th minute, was easily dispatched by the Dallas keeper.
