Manchester City Drop First Points Of The Season
Thanks to a few moments of lax defending, a David Silva pre-game injury, and some timely Adrián saves, West Ham beat Manchester City 2-1 today to sour the league debuts of Nicolás Otamendi and Kevin De Bruyne.
Vincent Kompany’s calf injury forced Manuel Pellegrini to partner Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala for the first time, and the pair miscommunicated on West Ham’s first goal, allowing Victor Moses far too much space for a cool finish. Kevin De Bruyne scored at the end of the first half with a floor-bound curler, but despite constant pressure, City could not break through.
These are their first dropped points and first goals allowed of the season. City came into the game with a club-record 11-game league winning streak. West Ham are now in the virtual Champions League places, so, good for them. It’s unclear at this moment if any of their fans have gotten victory tattoos yet, but the day is young.
Meanwhile, Leicester and West Ham trail the Citizens by three mere points. Stay woke, Riyad Mahrez coming.
