Manchester United Eliminated From Champions League Due To Ridiculous Red Card
Real Madrid recovered from a one-goal disadvantage to score a road win at Old Trafford and win the UEFA Champions League knockout round tie with Manchester United thanks to an absurd red card.
Nani drew the booking after a clash with Álvaro Arbeloa in the 57th minute with Man United up 1-0. If intentional, it'd be a deserved red. But as you can see, Nani didn't know Arbeloa was there:
Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir didn't see things that way, though, and despite earning praise from British press earlier today it's unlikely he'll get that same acclaim in the morning papers.
Luka Modrić scored an equalizer minutes later, followed up nearly immediately by a tap-in from Cristiano Ronaldo. That brought the aggregate score to a 3-2 Real Madrid advantage, and ended the Red Devils' dream for their first Champions League title since 2008. For Real Madrid's part manager Jose Mourinho simply said, " The best team lost."
