Mandatory Credit: Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports The Seattle Mariners reinstated infielder Ty France from the 10-day injured list and designated catcher Seby Zavala for assignment on Tuesday.
France, 29, sustained a right heel fracture when he was hit by a pitch June 7 against the Kansas City Royals, setting a record for the most HBPs in Mariners history. He had shared the record with Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez.
France is hitting .251 with seven homers and 27 RBIs in 61 games this season. He was a 34th-round pick of the Padres in 2015 and played parts of two seasons (2019-20) with San Diego before being traded to the Mariners in August 2020.
France, who primarily is a first baseman but also has played second and third, is hitting .269 with 68 homers and 288 RBIs over 623 career games.
Zavala, 30, came over in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks last November and is hitting .154 with one homer and two RBIs in 18 games this season.
In parts of five seasons with the Chicago White Sox (2019, 2021-23), Diamondbacks (2023) and Mariners, Zavala is hitting .205 with 15 homers and 56 RBIs in 194 games.
