Mandatory Credit: Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images Mark Mitchell hit a 3-point jumper at the overtime buzzer to lift Missouri past Oklahoma 88-87 Saturday afternoon in Columbia, Mo.
The Tigers (14-6, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) needed Trent Pierce's deep buzzer-beating 3-point shot at the end of regulation time to force the OT.
Mitchell led Missouri with 25 points and 10 rebounds. T.O. Barrett scored 21 points, and Jayden Stone added 20. The Tigers improved to 12-1 at home.
Nijel Pack scored 25 points and dished out five assists for the Sooners (11-9, 1-6), who suffered their sixth straight loss. Xzayvier Brown had 19 points and six assists, while Derrion Reid added 12 points.
The Tigers built a 41-29 rebounding edge and outscored Oklahoma 40-12 in the paint. But aside from their buzzer-beaters, they shot 4-for-19 from 3-point range.
Missouri's early 10-1 rebounding edge and eight second-chance points helped it take a 17-11 lead.
But the Sooners stayed close by starting 4-for-6 from 3-point range. Oklahoma used a 10-2 to move ahead 21-19.
The Sooners pushed their lead to 29-26 with Reid's 3-point jumper. However, Oklahoma failed to build on that edge, and the two teams spent the rest of the first half trading leads.
They continued trading leads in the second half. Missouri's 1-for-9 shooting slump allowed Oklahoma to push out to a 52-47 advantage on Brown's driving layup with 12:56 left.
Jacob Crews hit consecutive 3-point jumpers to put Missouri up 55-53 with 10:50 left, but Jadon Jones and Pack answered with 3-point shots for Oklahoma.
Tae Davis converted a traditional 3-point play, then Brown hit a free-throw to extend the Oklahoma lead to 70-64 with 6:04 left.
Stone and Barrett rallied the Tigers to a 70-70 tie by driving for 3-point plays.
The teams kept trading leads until the final minute. After Davis put Oklahoma up 81-78 with two free throws with 5 seconds left, Pierce forced overtime with his 37-footer.
Missouri never led in overtime until Mitchell pulled up atop the key for his winning shot.
