Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett was placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday due to a forearm flexor strain.

Garrett, 26, was slated to start on Sunday against the visiting Seattle Mariners but the Marlins scratched him on Saturday due to elbow discomfort. The move is retroactive to Thursday.

In a corresponding move, right-hander Kyle Tyler was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville and replaced Garrett as Sunday's starter.

A first-round pick (No. 7 overall) of the Marlins in 2016, Garrett began this season on the IL with a left shoulder impingement and didn't make his season debut until May 12. In seven starts in 2024, he's 2-2 with a 5.35 ERA over 37 innings.

Over parts of five seasons with Miami, Garrett is 16-19 with a 4.03 ERA in 65 games (63 starts) spanning 326 1/3 innings.

Tyler, 27, has appeared in one game with the Marlins this season, allowing one run in a two-inning relief stint. In eight games with the Los Angeles Angels (2021), San Diego Padres (2022) and Marlins, Tyler is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA over 18 1/3 innings.

In a separate move involving their Triple-A affiliate, the Marlins optioned right-hander Shaun Anderson and selected the contract of left-hander Kent Emanuel. This season for the Marlins, Anderson has a 15.19 ERA in two starts and Emanuel has a 7.56 ERA in four relief appearances.
