Matt Holliday Leaves Game After Taking A Pitch Right In The Nose
Photo credit: Dilip Vishwanat/ [object Object] During a sixth-inning rally against the San Diego, Matt Holliday caught a 95 MPH fastball from Andrew Cashner right in the nose. He immediately fell to the ground, and Mike Matheny leapt from the dugout. As you can see in the slow motion shot here, his nose looks worryingly elastic when it gets plowed into.
Holliday apparently tried to stay in the game, but was overruled and replaced by pitcher Mike Leake on base. According to the Cardinals, “Matt Holliday suffered a facial abrasion in the nose/upper lip area. There is no fracture.”
