Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports The NBA Finals-bound Dallas Mavericks rewarded general manager Nico Harrison with a multi-year contract extension on Tuesday.
Contract terms were not announced.
Harrison was the architect of a team that missed the playoffs in 2022-23 but, beginning Thursday, will meet the Boston Celtics with a chance to win its first NBA title since 2011.
"Nico Harrison has demonstrated his leadership capabilities in the Dallas Mavericks organization," Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont said in a statement. "His vision, along with his efforts on behalf of our players and staff have propelled our team to two playoff appearances in three seasons, and of course, this year's NBA finals. We are proud to have him as part of our team for the long term, and we are excited to watch him continue to build on the foundation of success he has helped establish."
Since last season, Harrison negotiated a 2023 post-draft trade for Dereck Lively II, signed Derrick Jones Jr., and traded for PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford. All four have been key to the supporting cast for stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
He also signed Doncic to a supermax extension.
The Mavs are 140-106 since Harrison, 51, took over, including 50-32 this season. They were the fifth seed in the Western Conference.
Last month, Dallas signed coach Jason Kidd to a multi-year extension amid speculation that he was linked to the coaching vacancy with the Los Angeles Lakers.
