Mayor Of Sochi: Gay People? Huh? Nope, None Of Those Here
Did you know that not a single gay person lives in Sochi, Russia, the site of the upcoming Winter Olympics? It's true! The mayor says so.
Via NBC News:
"We do not have [homosexuals] in our city," Pakhomov flatly told the BBC.
Pressed further, the mayor backtracked a bit: "I am not sure, but I don't bloody know them."
This is good news! Since there are definitely no gay people in Sochi, none of its citizens have to worry about being victimized by Russia's highly oppressive anti-gay laws. The Olympics should go off without a hitch now! Oh, right.
Also:
The same BBC reporter had visited a gay tavern in the Black Sea resort town the night before he interviewed Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov, who said the whole city is straight.
Huh.
