Mets INF Nick Madrigal (shoulder) injured vs. Nationals

New York Mets infielder Nick Madrigal dislocated his left shoulder in the first inning of the club's split-squad contest against the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon in Palm Beach, Fla.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that Madrigal will undergo an MRI exam to determine the severity of the injury.
"We have to wait and see what we're dealing with here before we can give you guys something," Mendoza told reporters.
Madrigal was playing shortstop when he charged and fielded a slow roller hit by Luis Garcia Jr. and threw across his body toward first base. He fell to the ground and sustained the injury. Garcia reached on the infield single, which scored a run.
Madrigal, 27, is competing for a backup spot after signing a one-year, $1.35 million deal as a free agent in the offseason.
The five-year veteran has a .274 batting average with four home runs and 77 RBIs in 285 major league games with the Chicago White Sox (2020-21) and Chicago Cubs (2022-24).
Last season, Madrigal batted just .221 with 10 RBIs in 86 at-bats over 51 games for the Cubs.
